This “syndrome” in the computer repair industry ranks near the top of my list of practices averted by some computer repair technicians. I mean the practice of a few non-professional computer repair technicians and even some big business franchises who take the easy way to fix a computer by telling the customer that they need to clean up the hard drive and reinstall everything.
In my head I’m still trying to figure out how anyone can call deletion and reinstall a “fix” for any computer repair problem. On my list of remedies, this is my last resort. All in all, it leaves me a little defeated. But since I rarely have to do it, I think only 3 or 4 times in the last 18 years is not a big problem for me.
So why do so many Computer repair Oxnard find it so easy to resort to destroying customer data and cleaning up their hard drive as a solution to a computer repair problem? These are some of the reasons.
They really don’t know how to solve the problem. This is reason number one. Most of the time, this is the method most commonly used by technicians who have little experience in troubleshooting and repairing computers. You know who they are. He’s the guy, often barely out of high school, who grew up playing computer games and created his own gaming system, so he thinks he’s a computer repair expert, or the person who studied the books at home. certification and went on to get a certificate because he answered all questions directly on a piece of paper. Either way, they just don’t have the experience and this is their only solution. What’s worse is that they take advantage of the client, who is confident in their “expert” conclusion that this is the only solution to their problem, and often makes the client feel sorry that he has not backed everyone up. your data, documents and images. and lose them due to re installation
Time and money equals profit. It takes longer to troubleshoot and try corrective action on a computer with complicated problems. Often, a consumer looks for the best price for computer repair. To remain competitive and maintain revenue, a computer repair company may have to resort to cleaning and reinstalling a computer because it takes a lot less time than actually solving the problem. Thus, they can make more money by taking the fastest route to get the computer up and running again. Again, this is generally not in the best interests of the customer as they generally end up losing their data and have to reinstall all their software applications on their own.
Sloth. This includes a bit of the above plus a bad attitude, but it is self explanatory. Computer technology or business philosophy is to take the easy path, avoid potential complications, repair the computer and do so with the least effort, time and cost. It’s a “workshop” mentality. In general, it just doesn’t care about the customer. Rather, it is about what is easier and more profitable. Once again, the customer becomes an innocent victim of unprofessional business attitudes and practices.
A comment from a self-appointed computer repair guru in a forum posted by another rookie technician asking “What is a good computer repair time for consumers?” Read the following: “It really depends on the client. To do this full-time, you should be able to do it in about 8-12 hours. If you just print the computer, it should take no more than 2 hours.” I know we know how it works.
A true technician can solve almost any problem without resorting to cleaning a hard drive and reinstalling the operating system, also known as reinventing a computer. A technician with a genuine concern for customer interest will use everything in their arsenal to solve a problem before embarking on a total reinvention of a computer system.
In my own computer repair business, I can find several cases where a customer brought me a computer because another computer repair person told them it was necessary to restore an image of the customer’s computer, resulting in total loss of your data, only to discover that they could actually be repaired without loss. Yes, sometimes it costs more to re-engineer a system because of the longer repair processes, but the customer prefers to pay a little more than losing all their data and all too often their precious libraries of family memories on the computer in digital photos.
