Is Preschool Still a Priority During Pandemic?

Preschool education continues to face greater difficulties amidst the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic. This dilemma is because one of the sectors tremendously impacted by the pandemic is the education sector. Schools, being considered a public gathering, can be a serious place for the virus to proliferate. In most countries, they temporarily closed their preschools, and they cancelled their face-to-face-classes. It is an action they took because while the number of COVID-19 patients in children is lesser than adults, children can still get sick from COVID-19, and they can still transfer the disease even if they are asymptomatic.

Despite this, preschool revesby remains operational under stricter guidelines, according to an article published by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skill, and Employment. The continuing operations of preschools in Revesby enable the most-deserved families to continue to avail of the service amid the pandemic. It is a huge help to families, especially now that economic recession is a global problem. But the question is, is it worth the risk despite the threat?

On the significance of early childhood education

Early childhood is the most crucial development stage because the brain continues to develop rapidly at this point. Studies show that delays in the development at this stage could lead to more serious and lifelong learning disabilities that can have a tremendous impact on the overall quality of their future. Preschool exposure allows children to develop their cognitive, psychomotor, and behavioural skills. It prepares them for a tougher and bigger school by setting the right attitude towards learning, developed through a series of relevant activities that allow them to hone their decision-making, communication, problem-solving, and kinesthetic abilities.

A study conducted by a Pre-Kinder Taskforce of interdisciplinary scientists entitled “The Current State of Scientific Knowledge on Pre-Kindergarten Effects” revealed that children attending pre-kinder programs are more ready for school than those who did not. They also found evidence to support that there is an improvement in the performances on literacy and numeracy.

On whether to enrol our children in Preschool or not

The choice lies in our hands. As parents, we know what is best for our children. Let us keep in our minds that these countries, who chose to keep their preschools operational, are the same countries working hard to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 by providing specific ways to keep the service running. They prepared enough for this battle for the benefit of the children. A preschool in revesby is not just about learning colours, sorting buttons, arranging realia according to shapes and sizes, saying the alphabet perfectly, or reciting the integers in the right order. It is not just about the games that they play, or us, their parents, finding the nearest centre to leave them for the day so we can focus at work. Preschool is nurturing. It is where children learn the skills they do not learn at home. Preschool is where they develop their social-emotional skills that lead to better E.Q. Preschool is the best place for our children to acknowledge someone else’s feelings and become more sensitive towards others. This is where they can be trained to be respectful and patient. A preschool does not necessarily have to be a childcare centre away from home. Preschool can also be those loving parents patiently learning how to train their child with the fundamentals at the comfort of their own home.
