This is the horrifying moment a New Jersey home exploded with six volunteer firefighters inside – but miraculously they survived.

Three were in the basement and another three had just entered the house when the fireball burst from its side and moments later the whole structure was blown apart.

All six of the men survived but two were taken to hospital for treatment of burns.

It happened after police and firemen began investigating smoke and an alleged gas leak at the home in Pompton Lakes on January 15 at around 2am.

The home on Ramapo Avenue belonged to Tom Garett – he managed to escape before the arrival of the firefighters and the explosion but lost everything in the process.

A GoFundMe was set up by his niece Amy Glazar Azcurra, who wrote that the house originally belonged to her grandmother, who died just before Christmas.

‘My mom and uncles grew up in this home and my family lives just a few houses down on Riverdale road.My uncle was still living in the home but luckily got out before the explosion happened. Unfortunately my uncle has lost everything,’ she wrote.

Since the incident in mid-January the page has raised more than $11,000.
